Nomads and their animals

We focus on a short, transparent supply chain to show how production in Mongolia allows nomads and family businesses to participate in the value chain.
Nomads and family businesses are involved in value creation. Let us show you the impact of their pastoral livestyle.

Origin of camel wool

Nomadic families in the Gobi Desert have relied on camels for centuries. The animals provide them with wool, milk and meat and carry the adults and children across the steppe.

Camels roam unhindered through the desert landscape. In search of fresh grasses, they move further and further away from the nomads' yurts. Once the animals start to wander a distance too far, the yurt is packed up and the nomads and camels move on. This is how camels set the pace of nomadic life.

Origin of sheep wool

Manaa has been a nomadic shepherd for more than 20 years. The daily lives of himself and his wife revolve around the survival of their sheep, goats and horses. Even in cold and stormy weather, the couple goes out to feed and water their animals.

Sheep wander through the countryside in large herds, spreading a feeling of freedom and independence.

Origin of yak wool

The majestic yaks live on the slopes of the Orkhon Valley. Despite harsh conditions and steep terrain, animals and people have adapted to this environment. Yaks serve as reliable porters, provide milk and a rare fine wool.

In Mongolian mythology, animals are an important symbol of strength and endurance - characteristics that are also inherent to the nomads in this region.

What wool means for nomads

We source our wool exclusively from Mongolian nomads who let their animals graze in the Mongolian steppe and desert. In this way, the yields support a lifestyle that has worked in harmony with nature for centuries. The animals are the livelihood of the nomadic families - and the people protect their herds from extreme cold.

Family-run production

We work together with two family businesses to produce our garments. These companies are responsible for processing the wool and manufacturing the garments. In this way, the added value remains within Mongolia.
